$500,000 in acquisition/predevelopment financing helps develop a 100-unit two-phased development for family rental housing and first-time homeownership -more-

Bayside Neighborhood Association, Portland
$190,000 loan helps local residents turn a donated house into a new home for an income-eligible first-time homeowner...-more-

Monhegan Island Sustainable Community Association
$100,000 will help MISCA purchase a property in the village cluster that will support two affordable homes. -more-

Penquis Community Action Program, Bangor
$300,000 in acquisition financing to Penquis CAP to purchase a Bangor property for a 28-unit affordable housing development with a community center. -more-

Community Partners
$202,500 to purchase a Monmouth property and the capital assets of Alternative Options, a residential program that provides housing and services for four residents with severe mental disabilities. -more-

Maine Bank and Trust makes $100,000 available for loans
Maine Bank and Trust logo

Maine Bank and Trust joins seven other Maine financial institutions as investors in the Genesis Community Loan Fund. Investor funds are loaned to organizations that help to create affordable housing and economic and social opportunities for underserved people and community across Maine. Other financial institutions that have commited a portion of their capital to the work of the Genesis Fund include Bath Savings Institution, Camden National Bank, The First National Bank of Damariscotta, Kennebec Savings Bank, Saco-Biddeford Savings, Sanford Institution for Savings, and Union Trust.

Eight island organizations will benefit from a three-year $300,000 grant
awarded to Genesis by the Department of Agriculture's Rural Community Development Initiative. Non-profit organizations on Cranberry Isles, Chebeague, Isle au Haut, Isleboro, Monhegan, North Haven, Vinalhaven and the Town of Long Island will receive direct financial assistance, project specific technical assistance and general training and assistance to assist with long-term development and sustainability of their year-round community. -more-

Camden National Bank donates to Island Challenge Fund
Camden National Bank offers financial support to the Islands Challenge Fund with its recent donation of $2,000. The check was presented at the Island Affordable Housing Symposium held in Belfast on April 28-29 where more than 100 people gathered to learn about and discuss issues of affordable housing and year-round sustainability of Maine's year-round island communities.

Islands Challenge Fund exceeds fundraising challenge to receive additional $100,000
Created in 2004 with a $220,000 grant from Jane's Trust of Boston, the Island Challenge Fund makes grants to island groups to support housing and community facility projects aimed at stabilizing the year-round communities on Maine 's islands. Grants have been made to organizations on Islesboro, Monhegan and North Haven.

"Adult Family Care Homes: A Case Study in Maine"

In 2005 Genesis Associate Director Liza Fleming-Ives set out to study and research the effective long-term care options for frail elders in rural communities. The result of interviews with state officials and administrators, staff and board members of adult family care homes across Maine has resulted in a 30-page case study. -more-
