Groundbreaking at Evergreen Woods

Groups collaborate on permanent supportive housing in Bath
tedford groundbreaking

Six homeless families from the midcoast will benefit from permanent housing and supportive services at Evergreen Woods. The groundbreaking for construction of Tedford Shelter's latest housing development was held on August 28 at the building site adjacent to the Bath United Church of Christ.

The Genesis Fund has provided technical assistance to the project since the idea was developed more than two years ago, including help in raising development capital. Genesis Executive Director Beth McPherson is currently working on a grant application that would increase the amount of capital available for programs.

Maine Island News

New Maine Islands section on www.genesisfund.org

In 2003 the Genesis Fund recognized that the increasing amount of work we were doing to assist the year-round Maine island communities indicated a need for an on going commitment to island affordable housing and community development. The production of the DVD, "Against the Tide: Halting the Erosion of Maine's Island Communities"; creation of the Islands Challenge Fund, the recent Rural Development grant all reflect that commitment.

But as the work continued and the stories and resources about the projects on Maine islands accumulated on the Genesis Fund's website, it became harder to navigate through all the information. Well, that ends now.

All Maine islands material has been collected and reorganized at www.genesisfund.org under a new "button" on our home page. It's called (surprise!) Maine Islands. We hope this new section helps those who are interested in finding out more about the work Genesis and many island organizations are doing to promote affordable housing and year-round sustainability.
