Be a Part of Our Work

Planned Giving –

Your planned gift to the Genesis Fund would be greatly appreciated. Planned gifts may be designated for a certain type of activity or to our pool of permanent revolving loan capital.

Below are several planned giving options:

BEQUESTS
By naming the Genesis Fund in your will, you may make a gift that you may not be able to afford to make during your lifetime. Bequests may be of a specific amount (e.g. $10,000) or a percentage of your estate.

Sample bequest language -

“I give __________________ (dollar amount or percentage of my estate or residual of my estate after other bequests) to The Genesis Fund with its principal place of business at 26 Water Street, Damariscotta, Maine 04543.”

If you are already an investor, you may make a simple provision in your will to forgive the indebtedness of the funds held by the Genesis Fund at the time of your death.

Sample forgiveness of debt language -

“If The Genesis Fund of 26 Water Street, Damariscotta, Maine 04543 shall be indebted to me at the time of my death, I hereby forgive repayment of such indebtedness.”

LIFE INCOME PLANS
There are several types of life income plans (e.g. Charitable Gift Annuities and Charitable Remainder Trusts) each of which combines tax benefits and annual payments throughout your life and/or the life of your designee. Nearly all share the following characteristics:

  • Increased income to the donor
  • Avoidance or deferral of up-front capital gains taxes when appreciated assets are used
  • A charitable income tax deduction for a portion of the gift
  • Avoidance of estate taxes
  • The opportunity to make a significant, permanent gift to support the ongoing work of the Genesis Fund

Note that life income gifts provide an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of the gift. (That exact percentage depends upon the age of the income beneficiaries, the type of gift involved, the rate of return, and market conditions.)

LIFE INSURANCE
The Genesis Fund may be named as a full or partial beneficiary of your life insurance policy. While life insurance is frequently employed to assure financial protection, its role in planned charitable giving is often overlooked.

RETIREMENT PLAN ASSETS
By naming The Genesis Fund as a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets, you can avoid estate and income taxes on the share that passes to us while putting your money to good use as part of our revolving loan capital.

For more information on the type of gift that is right for you, please consult your financial professional and/or your attorney.

If you are interested in making a planned gift to benefit the work of the Genesis Fund, please contact Executive Director Bill Floyd at 207.563.6073 or by email at bill@genesisfund.org .
